I am a sociologist with an interest in inclusion and exclusion, and how they are shaped by and shape processes such as migration, populism, and nationalism. I earned my PhD (2014) in Sociology from Brown University, and my MSc (2005) in Development Studies from the London School of Economics. My regional expertise is on Turkey and the Middle East, and Turkey-EU relations.

My academic writings have appeared at top journals such as Political Power and Social Theory; Sociology Forum. I also write for the general public. My pieces have appeared at Jadaliyya, Muftah, and Al Jazeera.
