Sarah Martin has over 20 years of experience in humanitarian response. She specializes in strengthening gender-based violence (GBV) prevention and response and addressing sexual exploitation and abuse. Ms. Martin has served as Director for Women and Children’s Protection in the European Refugee Crisis for IRC, the Global Protection Cluster’s Regional GBV Advisor for Asia and the Pacific, Senior Gender Advisor for UNHCR for the Syrian Refugee Response in Jordan and Humanitarian Affairs Specialist at MSF. As a consultant, her clients have included the International Committee of the Red Cross and Red Crescent, UNICEF, UNFPA, UNDP, WHO, UN Women, Women’s Refugee Commission, Save the Children Sweden and Care Egypt.
She is the author of several papers and reports including: “Mind the Gap between Gender in Humanitarian Action and Women, Peace and Security: Challenges and Opportunities for Implementing the Relief and Recovery Pillar of UNSC 1325” in the Oxford Handbook for Women, Peace, and Security and Must Boys be Boys? Ending Sexual Exploitation and Abuse by UN Peacekeepers.
