Rachel Andrew lives in Bristol, England. She is Managing Director of web development company edgeofmyseat.com, the company behind Perch CMS. She is also Editor in Chief of leading industry online publication Smashing Magazine. Self-employed since 2001, in additional to technical skills Rachel has extensive experience in running a small digital business, including first-hand experience of complying with European laws such as those dealing with data protection and VAT MOSS.

Rachel has been working on the web since 1996 and writing about the web for almost as long. She is the author or co-author of 22 books including The New CSS Layout, and a regular contributor to a number of publications both on and offline. A former member of the Web Standards Project, Rachel is a strong advocate of open web technologies.

Rachel is a Google Developer Expert for Web Technologies, and a W3C Invited Expert to the CSS Working Group where she is co-editor of the Multi-column layout specification. Rachel is a frequent speaker at web development and design events including An Event Apart, Smashing Conference, and Web Directions Code.
