MADALENA CALLÉ LUCAS is Senior Advisor for Sustainability Corporate affairs at EDP – Energias de Portugal since 2017.
She has worked in energy, climate change, sustainability and public funding matters for the past 14 years. During the Portuguese EU Presidency in 2007, was assistant adviser at the Permanent Mission of Portugal to the United Nations in New York entrusted with sustainable development matters. She was an attorney at the law firms CMS Rui Pena & Arnaut (formerly Rui Pena, Arnaut & Associados) from 2003 to 2006, and MLGTS – Morais Leitão, Galvão Telles, Soares da Silva & Associados from 2008 to 2010, advising both the private and public sectors on energy and climate change. She was in the public sector for the following 7 years. Between 2010 and 2012 served as international, climate, energy and sea affairs adviser to the Portuguese State Secretary for Environment and to the Portuguese Minister of Agriculture, Sea, Environment and Spatial Planning. From 2012 to 2017 was National Coordinator of the European Economic Area Grants, a public financial mechanism of about €58 million which funded several projects in the areas of sea, renewable energy, NGO capacity building, adaptation to climate change, gender equality, cultural and natural heritage and arts.
Madalena is a Law graduate from the Portuguese Catholic University, a postgraduate in Management and Business from the NOVA University of Lisbon’s School of Economics and a Master of European Legal Studies (LL.M) from the College of Europe in Bruges.
