EU Affairs Trade Foreign Affairs and International Relations

I research and lecture on international political economy and international trade politics at the University of Bath. My core areas of expertise are the politics of trade, EU trade policy and the promotion of norms and regulations through preferential trade agreements. My current projects include a book on the divergent free trade agreement strategies of large (China, USA, EU) and small economies (Singapore, Chile, New Zealand) in Asia-Pacific and their effects on the development of future economic governance in the region. I am also working on lessons to be drawn for a future UK trade policy from the trade agreement strategies of medium and small states in the Asia-Pacific., and leading a project with colleagues at the Universities of Bristol, Cardiff and Exeter, engaging regional businesses to investigate business reactions to the UK's withdrawal from the EU.

I have experience providing expert commentary for the media (particularly radio) on TTIP, TPP (now CPTPP), and EU trade policy and free trade agreement developments, and possess broad experience presenting and oragnising academic conferences, and have also led public engagement seminars (with businesses, civil servants) on EU trade policy.
