Marene Elgershuizen holds a Research Master's degree in Modern History and International Relations at the University of Groningen and has always been active in several NGO's concerning women's-, LGBTI-, and labour rights. Marene is a policy officer and advisor in Feminist Foreign Policy at WO=MEN, Dutch Gender Platform. In addition, she takes a seat in the Supervisory Board of the Stadstheater Zoetermeer, the Committee of Recommendation of the Netherlands International Cooperation Collection (NICC) and the Advisory Boards of the Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy and LOVER magazine. Marene is an active member of the Dutch Labour Party, holding positions in the Congress Presidium, the PES Europe delegation a.o. For the Foundation for European Progressive Studies in Brussels she takes part in its Young Academics Network, researching European Progressive Geopolitics, Trade Relations and Feminist Foreign Policy.
