I've been a Professor at UNC since 2004; prior to that, I was a faculty member at the University of Notre Dame. In 2017, I was visiting Fulbright researcher at the Hertie School of Governance (Berlin).
My research focuses on the politics of global finance and trade. Specifically, I am an expert on sovereign debt (including, but not limited to, sovereign bonds) and public debt management; and on multinational production, global supply chains and worker rights. My work employs both quantitative/statistical and qualitative (interviews, archival) approaches.
I have made dozens of academic conference presentations, to small and large audiences. I also have participated in policy-related conferences and panels, including events sponsored by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the East Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB), and the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS).
My policy-related writing has been published by the New York Times, Foreign Affairs and the Washington Post. More information is available here.
