Hillary Margolis is a researcher with the Women’s Rights Division of Human Rights Watch. Her current work focuses on migration and violence against women in Europe and Central Asia. At Human Rights Watch she has documented conditions for female migrants and asylum seekers in Italy and Greece, domestic violence in Kyrgyzstan, use of sexual violence as a weapon of war in the Central African Republic, exploitation and harassment of Syrian women and girls in Lebanon, and detention and abuse of female Syrian activists.Prior to joining Human Rights Watch, Hillary worked on women’s and children’s rights in Southeast Asia and Africa. She lived and worked in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo and eastern Chad, implementing programs to support survivors of sexual and gender-based violence, and conducted research on women’s and children’s rights in Cambodian prisons. Hillary earned a bachelor’s degree from Yale University and a master’s degree from the London School of Economics, where she specialized in women’s rights and conflict.
