Hürcan Asli Aksoy is the deputy head of the Centre for Applied Turkey Studies at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs in Berlin.
Her academic research focuses on gender perspectives of democratization, de-democratization and authoritarianism. She published on democratization and the role of women's movements in Turkey, gendered strategies in de-democratization and authoritarianism, and Turkey's foreign policy. She taught courses on democratization and authoritarianism, civil society, issues of Turkish politics, civil-military relations, gender and politics in the Middle East and North Africa.
Currently, Asli is working on Turkey's domestic politics and foreign policy in its immediate neighborhood.
She received her BA in philosophy from Bosporus University, Istanbul, and her MA and PhD in political science from University of Tübingen, Germany. She was an assistant professor at the Chair of Middle East Politics and Society at University of Erlangen-Nürnberg. She was a visiting fellow at the Center for Strategic Studies in Amman and at the Institute for Humans Sciences in Vienna.
