Dr Deborah Casalin is a postdoctoral researcher in the Law & Development Research Group at the University of Antwerp Law Faculty (Belgium), as well as a research associate in the Department of Public Law at the Nelson Mandela University Law Faculty (South Africa).
Her research in the field of international law focuses on reparations and durable solutions for people displaced by conflict, disaster, large-scale projects, etc., as well as how these issues intersect with development. Prior to joining academia, she worked for several years in the humanitarian and development sectors, mainly in relation to international humanitarian and human rights law.
She holds a PhD in Law from the University of Antwerp (Belgium), a Master of Laws from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (Belgium), an LLM from the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights (Switzerland), and an LLB from the Nelson Mandela University (South Africa).
