The Brussels Binder, a pioneering non-profit entity dedicated to amplifying a diverse array of women’s voices in policy dialogue and decision-making processes in Brussels – Europe’s policy hub – is actively seeking an individual of exceptional qualification and experience to enrich its Board of Directors. The candidate we are looking for will bring expertise in the domains of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).
Our new board member will be entrusted with an influential role that impacts our organization’s direction and vision. Your guidance will be integral in steering our strategic trajectory, ensuring that our platform continues to foster an inclusive and diverse environment for discourse and engagement, as well as inside the organisation.

Responsibilities:
- Strategic Guidance: Provide strategic advice and guidance to the organization’s leadership team and fellow board members on matters related to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Offer insights and perspectives to inform decision-making processes and drive the organization’s overall DEI strategy. Experience in constructively and effectively engaging with opposing viewpoints, demonstrating the ability to promote dialogue.
- Governance: Collaborate with the board and the organization’s leadership team to develop and implement procedures and guidelines that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout the organization. Ensure that DEI principles are integrated into all aspects of the organization’s operations.
- Thought Leadership: Serve as a thought leader and advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion, and belonging, among other things, understand the challenges due to intersectionality, both within the organization and in external engagements. Contribute expertise and insights to raise awareness, challenge biases, and foster inclusive practices in the policy and decision-making spheres in Brussels.
- Networking and Partnerships: Utilize your professional network and connections to establish partnerships and collaborations with relevant organizations, institutions, and stakeholders working on DEI-related initiatives. Leverage these partnerships to advance the mission of The Brussels Binder and enhance its impact.
- Fundraising and Resource Mobilization: Support the organization’s fundraising efforts by utilizing your expertise and network to pinpoint potential funding opportunities, sponsors, and donors. Contribute to the development and implementation of fundraising strategies to guarantee the financial sustainability of The Brussels Binder’s initiatives.
- Board Governance and Oversight: Undertake your fiduciary responsibilities with due diligence by engaging actively in board meetings, committee activities, and other organizational undertakings. Be vigilant in ensuring adherence to legal and ethical standards, while also providing a meaningful contribution to the holistic governance and strategic planning of the organization.
Qualifications:
- Proficiency in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), paired with a deep understanding of the intersecting challenges and opportunities in policy-making contexts, underscored by a demonstrated strong commitment to these principles. A proven history of successfully promoting DEI initiatives within NGOs, corporations, or the public sphere.
- Although not a requirement, experience in board or governance roles could provide an advantage for this role. /Demonstrated experience in constructively engaging with opposing viewpoints, demonstrating the ability to promote dialogue, build consensus, and foster a culture of respect and understanding.
- Prior corporate experience is valuable.
- Knowledge of the EU policy-making processes, institutions, and networks would be a distinct advantage.
- Exceptional strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, coupled with the ability to analyse intricate issues and devise innovative solutions.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration with a diverse range of stakeholders and influential advocacy.
- Fluency in English is compulsory, while proficiency in other European languages will be seen as an advantage.
This position has a maximum term of 4 years, and it requires the successful candidate to reside in Brussels for the duration of the term, or to be available for in-person board meetings and regular engagement with volunteers.
